World's most Disturbing Bottle Babies

Posted by Editor John On Thursday, August 21, 2008 0 comments

Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, PA. It's a museum of medical oddities. They have many exhibits of conjoined twins... It's extremely disturbing.

The Mutter Museum, part of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, is interesting if nothing else. The museum contains specimens of different medical conditions. The Mutter Museum was originally intended to give medical students the chance to see the effects of rare conditions. Today it still serves that purpose, and fascinates the public with some macabre items you might expect to find at a Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum. Some readers may find exhibits mentioned in this article to be quite gross.

Thomas Dent Mutter presented his collection of unique materials to the college in 1858, and the museum grew from there. The Mutter Museum's collection now has over 20,000 artifacts. The artifacts include fluid-preserved specimens, skeletal specimens, medical instruments, models, and much more.

In 1874, the autopsy of Siamese Twins Chang and Eng Bunker (the first set of Siamese, or conjoined, twins) was performed in the museum. The twins' connected livers, as well as a plaster cast of their bodies, has been on display ever since.

Visitors to the Mutter Museum can also see the "Soap Woman". She may have died sometime in the 19th century. Certain chemicals present in the soil she was buried in turned her into soap, literally.

Other specimens include a preserved 5 foot long human colon, preserved human fetuses, and part of the brain of President Garfield's assassin, Charles Guiteau. The Mutter Museum is also widely know for it's collection of skulls, as well as a collection of 2,000 objects people have swallowed.

World's Most Scary Prison

Posted by Editor John On Tuesday, August 19, 2008 6 comments

Atlanta Federal Penitentiary, is a medium-security prison for men in Atlanta, Georgia. For many years it has been a notorious part of the U.S. federal prison system. It also has a detention center for pre-trial and holdover inmates and a camp for minimum security male inmates. It was primarily used as a detention center for Cuban refugees from the Mariel Boatlift who were ineligible for release into American society. The prison is located in southeast Atlanta at the junction of Boulevard and McDonough Boulevard. Its population as of July 6, 2006 is 1909 in the penitentiary and 554 in the camp.

There's an abandoned prison farm in SE Atlanta, hidden in the woods and completely covered by kudzu.

Buildings are so overgrown that they are deeply hidden in trees.
According to Atlanta's "History of the Dept of Corrections" page, the prison farm was operated from 1945 to 1995.

There are rumors of the 290 acres being converted into a park soon. Increased patrols are also occurring so don't park next to the road.

Largest Mysterious Ship Graveyard - Where Ghost Ships Are At Rest

Posted by Editor John On Tuesday, August 19, 2008 0 comments

The Bay of Nouadhibou, seven miles south from the Mauritanian city, hides one the biggest ship cemeteries in the world. There are more than 300 wrecks around the harbour, resting for years and coming from all nations.

However, there isn't any magic or mystery in this squalid place. For years, Mauritanian harbour officers were so corrupt, that they let ships be discarded in the harbour in exchange of some cash. Discarding a ship is quite expensive for a company, so during the decades, lots of unwanted ships ended up in the Harbour of Nouadibou.

A few years ago, the situation was so out of control, that even Mauritanians started to worry. Nowadays there’s a project from the European Union to refloat all these junk and take them away, or destroy in situ (with explosions) the remaining wrecks.

The city of Nouadhibou is one of the poorest locations in the world. Right over these phantom beaches there are people living inside the huge merchant boats.

Amazing Dexter Showtime - Fountain Of Smelly Blood

Posted by Editor John On Monday, August 18, 2008 0 comments

In the "who do they think they're kidding?" department, Showtime has set up fountains in cities all over the country that will spill red water, as a promotion for the second season of their show Dexter.

In some cities, residents couldn't miss the promotion. Philadelphia's Love Park Fountain bubbled up good and bloody if you're into that sort of thing. Bostonist was skeptical because, as we all know, the city is sensitive, quakes at the phrase "viral marketing," and doesn't like anything that might freak people out.

A Woman Gives Birth To Septuplets

Posted by Editor John On Monday, August 18, 2008 0 comments

Egyptian nurses tend to newborn septuplets at the el-Shatbi hospital in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria, Egypt, Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008. The newborns, four boys and three girls, were delivered by caesarian section at the end of the eighth month of 27-year-old Ghazala Khamis' pregnancy.

A 27-year-old Egyptian woman gave birth to septuplets early Saturday in the coastal city of Alexandria, family members and the hospital director said.

Ghazala Khamis was in good condition after having a blood transfusion during her Caesarean section due to bleeding, said Emad Darwish, director of the El-Shatbi Hospital where she gave birth.

The newborns, four boys and three girls, weigh between 3.2 pounds and 6.17 pounds and are in stable condition, Darwish said. They have been placed in incubators in four different hospitals that have special premature baby units, he said.

"This is a very rare pregnancy -- something I have never witnessed over my past 33 years in this profession," Darwish told The Associated Press by phone from the hospital.

Darwish decided to carry out the Caesarean section at the end of Khamis' eighth month of pregnancy due to the pressure on her kidneys. He said Khamis, who already has three daughters, took fertility drugs in an effort to have a son.

Khamis, the wife of a farmer in the northern Egyptian province of Beheira, was admitted to the hospital two months earlier, Darwish said.

"From the initial checkup, I say that none of the babies have any sort of deformities or incomplete organs," Darwish said.

The woman's brother, Khamis Khamis, said even though his sister was trying to conceive more children so she could have a son, the family was astonished when they found out she would give birth to multiple babies.

"We thought about an abortion, but then we felt it's religiously forbidden. So we said 'Let God's will prevail,'" he told the AP by phone.

Egypt's health minister announced that the seven babies will receive free milk and diapers for two years, the brother added.

Funniest Moments In Beijing Olympic 2008

Posted by Editor John On Sunday, August 17, 2008 0 comments

For me, the best part about the Olympics has always been that it brings back the McDonald's Monopoly game. I also like it because of they hot female gymnasts in those outfits that leave nothing to the imagination. Not to mention the thousands of humans of abnormal size and appearance. It's kind of like watching a circus freak show.
