Torture Travel : Tourists Get Ready For Kidnapping Experience

UNDERSEA yachts, five-star blimp hotels and simulated kidnapping experiences could soon be on traveller's must do lists.

Design concepts for such creative ideas have been showcased at the Tourism Futures conference in Brisbane.

"Now that Virgin Galactic is hopefully going to have their first passengers in outer space as early as 2012 these kind of creative ideas are potentially going to become reality,’’ Craig Shim, Tourism Queensland marketing manager, said.
Mr Shim said a French company was already offering simulated kidnapping packages, in which people can pay to be abducted without warning, bound, gagged and imprisoned for between four and ten hours.

"It allows you to experience the terror of the real thing,’’ he said.

Men Are Bigger Liars..!!

Believe it when women say their partners are bigger liars than them, for a new survey has revealed that males tell twice as many lies as females...

The survey by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment to mark the launch of ‘Lie to Me’ Season 1 on DVD, revealed that men tell six fibs a day on average to their partner, boss and work colleagues. This makes it to 42 lies a week, 2,184 a year, or a staggering 126,672 in an average lifetime.

However, women come out with just three porkies a day - or 68,796 in a lifetime. The poll showed "Nothing’s wrong, I'm fine" is the top lie told by men and women. "Body language is a great way of telling someone is lying," The Daily Express quoted body language expert Richard Newman as saying.

"Yet most people can’t read the signals. They assume someone hiding the truth avoids eye contact. The opposite is true. Liars usually do everything they can to convince you - sitting still and looking at you to watch your reaction. "Touching your face and rapid blinking are massive
giveaways. But even the world’s top expert can only read up to 85 per cent of lies from body
language," he added.

Top lies at work included: Nice to see you again, I missed your call, The traffic was bad,I’ll give
you a ring, My alarm didn’t go off and The train was delayed.Still, more than four out of five people said that they could easily tell if their partner was lying, and more than half had been caught out trying to lie to their partner. Almost a quarter of couples have rowed about lies, with seven per cent splitting up because of it.

Nine per cent of people had got into trouble at work by lying.

Dictators Game : A Century Old Picture Emerged !!

A 100-year-old picture supposedly showing a young Adolf Hitler playing chess against Vladimir
Lenin has emerged.

The extraordinary etching is said to have been created in Vienna by Hitler's art teacher, Emma
Lowenstramm.

It is apparently signed on the reverse by the two dictators.

In 1909, Hitler was a jobbing artist in the city and Lenin was in exile and the house where they
allegedly played the game belonged to a prominent Jewish family, reports The Telegraph.

In the run-up to the Second World War the Jewish family fled.

And they gave the image and chess set to their housekeeper, whose great-great grandson could now net 40,000 pounds for each item at an auction in Shropshire next month.

The unnamed vendor is confident the items are genuine after his father spent a lifetime attempting to prove their authenticity.

It is titled "A Chess Game: Lenin with Hitler - Vienna 1909".

Richard Westwood-Brookes, who is selling the items, said: "This just sounds too good to be true,
but the vendor's father spent a lifetime proving it.

"He compiled a 300 page document and spent a great deal of money engaging experts to examine the etching. The signatures in pencil on the reverse are said to have an 80 per cent chance of being genuine, and there is proof that Emma Lowenstramm did exist.

"The circumstantial evidence is very good on top of the paper having been tested. Hitler was a
painter in 1909 and his Jewish teacher Emma Lowenstramm was the person who made the etching.

"There is some suggestion that when he came to power Hitler protected her and she died from
natural causes in 1941. At the time, Vienna was a hotbed of political intrigue and the house where this game took place belonged to a prominent Jewish family.

"Lenin at the time was moving around Europe in exile and writing "Materialism and
Empirio-criticism."

Westwood-Brookes added: "His movements are hazy and it is known that he did play chess and later he certainly wore wigs as a disguise. It is also known that Lenin was a German agent and the house was where people went to exchange political views.

"The chess set is clearly the same chess set as that in the etching. It is a box chess set that
folds out and the pieces are identifiable - particularly the kings and bishops. To my knowledge
there are five etchings of this image, but this has the signatures of both men and the artist.

"The provenance is that it has come through the family of the housekeeper who was given it when the Jewish family fled in the late 1930s. The family is based in Hanover and it is the great great grandson of the housekeeper who is selling it.

"On all sorts of levels it is an extremely valuable artefact. Even as just an allegorical picture
it shows the men playing chess possibly for the world."

Historian Helen Rappaport, who has just written a book called "Conspirator: Lenin in Exile", said
the etching was probably a "glorious piece of fantasy".

She said: "In 1909 Lenin was in France and there is no evidence that he was in Vienna. In October he went to Liege in Belgium and in November he went to Brussels. He would have visited Vienna before and after that year.

"He liked the place and went there because he travelled around Europe on trains, but he wouldn't have been there long enough to meet a young Hitler. He was also as bald as a bat by 1894 with just hair on the sides of his head.

"And when in exile he was not known as Lenin and instead used a number of aliases. The person
believed to be Lenin in the etching may well have been one of his revolutionary or Bolshevik

associates who was misidentified. It may even have been an Austrian socialist with whom he
associated in the Second International.

"The Germans did fund the Bolsheviks and gave them millions of marks for the revolutionary effort, but Lenin was not a German sympathiser. Although this is totally spurious it is wonderful to bring these two great megalomaniacs together.

"It makes sense retrospectively and the history of art is full of retrospective meetings between
people."

The items are to be sold at Mullock's auction house in Ludlow, Shropshire, on October 1.

Do you ever think about taking part in a beauty contest? Had lots of plastic or cosmetic surgery?

Plastic surgery has long been a taboo topic among beauty pageant contestants. But, an upcoming contest in Hungary aims to break new ground by featuring only women who have had some form of cosmetic surgery.
Miss plastic Hungary is the first ever contest where plastic surgery treated women can participate only

Women competing in the "Miss Plastic Surgery" pageant, which celebrates beauty achieved through cosmetic surgery, must submit their medical records along with their vital statistics.

The contest is open to women between 18 and 30 years old who have undergone at least one cosmetic procedure that involved general or local anaesthesia.

The contest was started to boost the plastic surgery industry in Hungary, where cosmetic procedures still carry a stigma of artificiality. Pageant officials said the beauty of the contestants would demonstrate how the industry had advanced in recent years.

A team of judges drawn from the country's best plastic surgeons will judge the peageant, the final
of which is on October 9. The winner will receive a new flat, the runner up a new car, and the
bronze prize recipient will win a trip for two to Kenya.

In 2004, Chinese women competed in a Miss Artificial Beauty pageant.

Feng Qian, China's Miss Artificial Beauty winner, holds her trophy at the country's first beauty
pageant for the surgically enhanced in Beijing December 18, 2004.

Ms Feng said she was proud of her glamorous, albeit artificial looks, achieved through botox
injections and surgery to widen her eyes and remove fat from her cheeks and waist.

"I think this contest offered a platform for all the girls who have undergone plastic surgery and
aren't willing to talk about it," Ms Feng - who is training to be a plastic surgeon herself .

Winner of China's Miss Artificial Beauty pageant, Feng Qian, models a swimsuit at the pageant in
Beijing December 18, 2004. China chose its first Miss Artificial Beauty on Saturday, giving the
crown to a 22-year-old from the northeastern city fo Jilin who couldn't have done it without the
help of her plastic surgeon.

Feng Qian received gifts worth 50,000 Yuan ($6,000) after beating 19 other finalists aged 17 to 62 in Beijing.

To prevent cheating, all contestants - who included one transsexual - had to provide a doctor's
certificate to prove that they had indeed had surgery.

Women Lead India 3rd To The Death Journey...A Shocking Truth !!

Few months ago we submitted a brief report on smoking, where we clearly mentioned about the bad side of the cigarette smoking. But after watching this I'm quite sure that, our all effort to aware people about the bad impact of smoking, failed. The implementation of the post is 'Zero'. It is very shocking to me and I think as well as to the whole of the World !!

Here, in a latest survey report, it's revealed that India holds the third position in smoking and guess who made them..Third!! None other than women of India. I must say, the power of women in India is really impressive ! Cheers to the Indian Women :)

Indian women are among the worst in the world when it comes to smoking. According to the latest Tobacco Atlas, the country ranks third in the top 20 female smoking populations across the globe.

Only the US with 2.3 crore female smokers and China with 1.3 crore women smokers are worse off than India in this chart. However, as far as percentage of women smoking is concerned, it is below 20% for India.

Among India's immediate neighbors, only Pakistan figures in this infamous list, but right at the
bottom at 20th with around 30 lakh female smokers.

Published by the American Cancer Society and World Lung Foundation, the Atlas makes another serious observation -- female smokers in India die an average eight years earlier than their non-smoking peers.

According to the Atlas, about 250 million women in the world are daily smokers -- 22% being from high resource countries and 9% from low and middle resource countries.

Releasing the potential of this growing market, the Atlas said the tobacco industry has been
marketing cigarettes to women using seductive but false images of vitality, emancipation, slimness, sophistication and sexual allure.

Reacting to the report, Dr P C Gupta, director of Healis Sekhsaria Institute of Public Health, told
TOI that this finding had very serious implications for India. "Even though the percentage
prevalence of women smoking in India isn't that high, the number is huge. In addition to all the
harm that tobacco causes to men, women are additionally exposed in a special way because of their reproductive function."

Dr Gupta added that tobacco consumption reduced birth weight of the fetus, decreased their
gestational age leading to premature babies, increased the risk of still births and heightened
chances of anemia among adult pregnant women.

"The government isn't focusing on anti-tobacco campaign that specially targets women. Smoking is definitely increasing in young college going women showing that the tobacco industry is targeting them very strongly," Dr Gupta added.

The Atlas said tobacco killed some six million people each year -- more than a third of whom will
die from cancer -- and drained $500 billion annually from global economies.

As 25% of smokers die and many more become ill during their most productive years, income loss devastates families and communities. In 2010, 72% of those who die from tobacco related illnesses would be in low- and middle-income countries. By 2030, 83% of these deaths will occur in low and middle-income countries.

Unveiled at the Global Cancer Summit on Wednesday, the Atlas said 2.1 million cancer deaths per year will be attributable to tobacco by 2015. "The Atlas is crucial to helping advocates in every nation get the knowledge they need to combat the most preventable global health epidemic," said John R Seffrin, CEO of American Cancer Society.

Now it is upto you whether you will ruin your future in the smoke of Death or stretch your hands to welcome the cheerful life.

Most Miserable Day Of The Week..It's Not Monday !!

Monday was always assumed to be the day we are most miserable, but in a recent market research it turns out that, Wednesday is the worst day of the week...!

That’s the claim of two American mathematicians, who analyzed words used in 2.4 million internet blogs such as Twitter, giving a score out of nine depending on how positive they were.

Christopher Danforth and Peter Dodds, of Vermont University, gave words like free, fun, rainbow and sex an eight plus score, while words such as betray, cruel, hatred and suffocate all scored less than two.

Saturday and Sunday rated predictably well but, most shockingly, Monday came out as the second happiest day of the week, partly because people were still reminiscing about the weekend, the British newspaper Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday.

However by Wednesday, these feelings had subsided. Christopher Danforth said: “People’s daily experience is being reflected somewhat in what they’re saying. And this is more of a story, we think, for Twitter messages, which we’ve just started to pay attention to, about a year ago.

“They think that they are communicating with friends, but since blogs are public we’re just looking over their shoulders. The weekends tend to be fairly happy and Wednesday turned out to be the saddest day in our study.”

The expert added: “What we’re attempting to do is measure collective happiness on a much larger scale, similar to measuring the temperature outside.

“The energy of a few molecules bouncing around doesn’t give a good indication of heat, you need billions or more.”

Increasing Sound Might Cause Ecologycal Imbalance

A recent research has reviled that number of frogs are declining in Australia, scientists are very much confused in search of the reason of it.But after a long discussions and research they all they all concluded to the fact that increasing traffic noises of Australia is the main reason behind it..!!

Traffic noise could be ruining the sex lives of urban frogs by drowning out the seductive croaks of
amorous males, an Australian researcher said.

A well-projected and energetic croak is the male frog's most important asset in the quest to
attract mates to his pond, Melbourne University ecologist Kirsten Parris said. But competition from traffic noise in Melbourne could be a reason why frog numbers have declined in Australia's
second-largest city since her survey of more than 100 ponds began in 2000, she said.

"If there are a number of different males calling, the one that sounds the best often gets the
girl," Parris told The Associated Press. "You have to be pretty clear about your assets if you're a
male frog."

Generally, if he's putting a lot of energy into calling — if he's calling loudly or quickly or for
a long time or all those things combined — it shows he's fit and strong and generally those things
tend to correlate with female choice," she added.Parris found the distance at which a frog suitor
can be heard by a potential mate is slashed by city noise.

"This makes it much harder for frogs to attract mates and this could then mean that their breeding success is reduced," Parris said.

Frog species with low-pitched croaks are most disadvantaged because they are competing against the low-pitched rumble of traffic and machinery such as air conditioners, she said. The southern brown tree frog has adapted by raising the pitch of its croak in areas where there is traffic din, she found.

In the noisiest parts of Melbourne, the frog's usual pitch cannot be heard by other frogs beyond 21 yards (19 meters). At the higher pitch, the croaks carry an additional 16 feet (5 meters). The
popplebonk frog's call can be heard by females from 875 yards (800 meters) without background noise. That range shrinks to only 46 feet (14 meters) near busy roads.

Parris presented her research on Thursday to the 10th International Ecology Congress in the eastern city of Brisbane.Ken Thompson, a University of Sheffield ecologist who edits the British journal, Functional Ecology, described Parris' findings of reduced mating because of traffic noise as "highly plausible."

"There is accumulating evidence that noise in urban habitats is having an effect on the behavior of animals," Thompson said.He said his own university's research found British birds were singing at night because their habitats had become too noisy during the day.

Bank Details Of 40 Million People !!.

THE bank details of 40 million people have been reportedly recorded by a former British cop who plans to charge victims to see whether their details are available.

Colin Holder, a retired detective, has spent more than $324,000 scouring the internet for stolen personal bank details of millions of people.

Credit card details, bank account numbers, home addresses and PINs are all available according to Mr Holder.

It is not known how many Australian details are stolen.

The data comes into criminal hands as result of “phishing”, where internet users are duped into revealing over their key details.

Mr Holder claims the highly sensitive information is readily available and traded over the internet.

"About six months after I retired, I was contacted by an old source who said he was seeing a vast amount of credit card and other personal data being exchanged between criminals, and what could he do with it,'" Mr Holder told.

Mr Holder has since created a website- www.lucidintelligence.com - where people can search to see whether their details are for sale.

He said he will only charge those whose details have been stolen.

"This project is costing me £6,000 a month to operate, and I'm only charging to help recover those costs," Holden said.

"In 90 percent of cases, the searcher will never have to pay a penny."

Lloyd Borrett, an internet security expert and marketing manager at Australian anti-virus company, AVG, said users have to be vigilant with their private details.

“The key thing all of mailware is that they are always trying to slowly rip people off, gathering parts of their identify and information of the person, whether it be bank records, tax file number, phone numbers, everything,” Mr Borrett said.

He said AVG users around the world reported 560 million “mailware events” in June alone proving the threat to users.

Mr Borrett said internet users needed up-to-date anti-virus software to combat new mailware and virus attacks.

“If you think someone might have your details, contact the bank and change them, if you think about it the bad guys have got contacts and they can do far more that we think,” he said.

World's Haunted Railway Station In Stalin's Lost City

Introduction : We’ve had recently an abandoned railway in Abkhazia, abandoned as a result of USSR collapse when new “independent” republics couldn’t maintain the complicated and high-cost USSR legacy objects. But this one was abandoned long before the USSR collapse, it was doomed to be abandoned from the beginning. It was built by a personal Stalin’s order in the middle of nowhere - deep inside Northern Siberia between Salekhard city and Igarka town. It was not connected with any other Russian Federal Railway System and the purpose of it still is not very clear, so as a senseless toy it way abandoned pretty soon and now rusts accessible only with a helicopter.

It was one of the most ambitious projects of the Stalin era, known as the "railway of bones". At least 10 people a day died during the four years of its construction, but unlike most of Uncle Joe's grand designs it was never completed and now sits unfinished in the tundra, an icy road to nowhere.

Yet today officials are considering restarting work on the vast railway that Stalin hoped would run inside the Arctic Circle, initially from the north Siberian town of Salekhard to the port of Igarka. Work was abandoned in 1953, shortly after the dictator's death, yet its usefulness appeals to Moscow today.

The Kremlin, which sees its global influence resting on its abundance of natural resources, may have the railway finished to link the bountiful gas fields and metal mines of Arctic Siberia with Europe. Sergei Ivanov, deputy head of Russia's massive state rail company, said recently they were considering extending the railway to the nickel-rich town of Norilsk, responsible for 2% of Russia's GDP. A local engineer told the Guardian last week that he has been instructed to revisit the plans for the railway, considered to be technically excellent.

Renewed interest in the project comes as an exhibition in its memory opens in Moscow, at the Sakharov Museum, named after the Soviet-era dissident. Ludmila Vesilovskaya, curator of the exhibition, said it was designed to show that prison labour was a vital part of the Soviet economy and that its purpose was often not as "senseless as the many myths about the Stalin era try to show".

The decision to begin work on "Projects 503 and 501" was announced in January 1949. Stalin wanted to improve access to the Bering Strait, then the easiest route to the Soviet Union's new main adversary, the US. "We must take the north in hand", he is reported to have said, adding that "labour power and resources will be no problem".

In fact, work on the 750-mile railway had already begun in April 1947, heading in two directions, project 503 west from Igarka, and project 501 east from the town of Salekhard. "At the peak of activity in 1951, 85,000 prisoners were working on it," said Oleg Prikhodko, a researcher in Salekhard. "The climate was awful, the winters terribly severe." The walls of the barracks in which the prisoners lived were "very thin" and it was "difficult to understand how they survived in 50 below zero".

Ms Vesilovskaya said there were no exact figures available for the number of prisoners who died making the 435 miles of railway that was completed. A report from one of the directorates for January 1951 showed they lost about 1% of their prisoners, she said. "Each had 30,000 to 50,000 workers, so that's at least 300 dead a month."

Among the survivors was Lazar Shereshevsky, 79, arrested in the army in 1944. He was part of a troupe of 200 entertainers who travelled along the railway construction site, staging operas for the labourers. "The main causes of death were working accidents, disease and illness," he said, adding that scurvy was a major killer, as were disputes between criminal groups in the camps that the guards did little to prevent.

"The main thing was to build quickly and effectively," he said, adding that work was impossible during winter.

Actual labour was confined to the six warmer months of the year. "The work was hard, but the hardest thing were the mosquitoes - myriads of them that covered everything", he said. He added that in the 24-hour daylight of the polar zone they "ate us all day long".

Ms Vesilovskaya said she hopes her Moscow exhibition will explain to the younger generation that a vital part of Russian history is disappearing. "There is a danger we will lose, with these last buildings and camps, part of our historical memory," she said.

Psychiatric Kid - A Boy Drilled His Skull Saved By Doctor

He had the knowledge to recognise that the young boy was about to die from a blood clot on the brain.

But Dr Rob Carson knew he didn't have the right tools to deal with the emergency.

Unless you count that drill in the hospital maintenance cupboard, of course.

With Nicholas Rossi's life hanging in the balance, this was a time for desperate measures.

Recovering: Experts say Nicholas Rossi would have died, had Dr Rob Carson drilled through his skull with a drill from the hospital maintenance cupboard

And within minutes the doctor was using the handyman's De Walt cordless to bore into Nicholas's skull to relieve the pressure on his brain.

Last night experts agreed that the operation undoubtedly saved the child's life.

'There were only minutes to spare,' Dr Carson revealed, as he told of the drama yesterday.

Relief: Nicholas with his parents Karen and Michael Rossi who can't praise Dr Carson enough for his quick-thinking actions

Nicholas had been brought to him after falling off his bike near home.

The 12-year-old had knocked himself out briefly after hitting his head on a kerb but then began complaining of a headache.

His mother Karen, a trained nurse, drove him to the local hospital in the small Australian town of Maryborough, in Victoria, where Dr Carson was on duty.

Nicholas was kept under observation but after an hour he began to pass in and out of consciousness, and then went into spasms.

Dr Carson recognised this as a sign of internal bleeding in the skull, the result being pressure on the brain.

It was the same fatal condition that claimed the life of actress Natasha Richardson after a skiing accident in March.

Because the small hospital was not equipped with neurological drills, Dr Carson needed to think on his feet.

He raced to the maintenance room and found the drill which handymen usually used for drilling holes in wood.

Before he went further, he telephoned a leading neurosurgeon in Melbourne, Mr David Wallace, and asked for his assistance in talking him through the procedure, which he had never carried out before, even under hospital conditions.

Nicholas's father Michael Rossi said: 'Dr Carson came over to us and said "I am going to have to drill into Nicholas to relieve the pressure on the brain. We've only got one shot at this and one shot only".

'Dr Carson told me all he can remember saying is: "Get the Black and Decker".

'He drilled into my son's head and we heard the suction.'

Anaesthetist Dr David Tynan, who assisted Dr Carson, said the operation took just over a minute: 'It was pretty scary.

'You obviously worry, are you pushing hard enough or pushing too hard, but then when some blood came out after we'd gone through the skull, we realised we'd made the right decision.'

It was then decided Nicholas was stable enough to be sent by helicopter to Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital.

It was learned later that Nicholas had fractured his skull and torn a small artery between the bone and the brain just above his ear.

Dr Carson remained modest amid the praise from Nicholas's family.

'You just do those things,' he said. 'It's not a personal achievement. It's just part of the job. I had a very good team of people helping me.'

Cat's Pee Is The Finest Wine In New Zealand

CAT'S pee and sweaty passionfruit are hardly flavours to make your mouth water but it seems Kiwis can't get enough of them.

These are the core aromas of New Zealand's world-leading sauvignon blanc, according to a six-year study by a team of lucky wine scientists.

The team spent more than $12m defining the flavours of the country's most popular grape variety, which has a unique flavour and character that has captured the world's interest.

They concluded it was a winning combination of sweet, sweaty passionfruit, asparagus, and cat's pee.

The tests were carried out by an expert sensory panel trained to distinguish between sixteen flavours, including canned and fresh asparagus, stone fruit, apple and snowpeas.

A wine region called Wairarapa, near the capital of Wellington, was found to be the top spot for cat's pee influences in the white wine.

Sauvignon blanc in the celebrated South Island wine region of Marlborough had an intense "sweet, sweaty passionfruit'' and asparagus flavour, a flavour a panel of ordinary wine drinkers ranked their favourite.

Plant & Food science research leader Dr Roger Harker said wine connoisseurs routinely describe wine using the terms such as cat's pee and capsicum and now the market place was also catching on.

One winery, Cooper's Creek, had already caught on, calling its sauvignon blanc Cat's Pee on a Gooseberry Bush.

Sue Blackmore, a wine science lecturer at New Zealand's Lincoln University, said the flavours were only found in moderation.

"We're talking about parts per billion, very tiny amounts to make the wine more complexing and interesting,'' Blackmore said.

"If you had a whole lot of the compounds that give you cat's pee it obviously wouldn't be great but it's amazing what a little can do.''

One wine retailer said New Zealanders would not be fazed by the unsavoury associations in their favourite wine.

"Most wouldn't stop to think about it,'' he said.

"Most people drink purely for enjoyment - they don't stop to analyse the wine.''
